Montmartre is regarded as the traditional side of the city of Paris. Even though Montmartre is one of Paris’ districts; the people, the shops and the atmosphere is still decades ago. You’ll almost feel how it feels like to be in Paris or in this district in the beginning of the 20th century. The town may not be really old with its structures but it has kept what it has for many years since its inception.

One of the traditions that are well kept in this district is the vineyard. Vigne de Montmartre is the last remaining vineyard in Paris and during the off season it’s nothing but a barren field. However, people come and go as they appreciate the struggle it has to endure against development. This part of the hill of Montmartre was able to stand through the tests of time. As time goes by the beauty and importance of Vigne de Montmartre just increases every year and the quality is still being preserved, formula and all.

You can easily find this vineyard in Montmartre. One of the most famous places in Paris is the Place du Tertre. This square is not just any square with lots of things to look at but historically, this place has been the refuge of the starving artists. Not that the artist that you see in that square is still poor, but they have successfully preserved the practice of giving tourists their self portrait for a fee. Tourists who come from various countries come to this place and experience the life in Montmartre especially the afternoon sketch. Picasso used to hang out in this place, painting pictures.

Going back to the vineyard, the Vigne de Montmartre was established in 1929. This was done through the efforts of some non-government group including Francisque Poulbot, a well know French painter. During those times, there vineyards in Paris are practically being eradicated right before their very eyes. What was left is a small patch of soil that is now owned by the government. Because it’s now a government facility, the non-government organization can now make some changes. They stared planting and they made it clear it’s just voluntary. People come and go to the place to preserve what might be most important winery.

If you want to enjoy a bottle of this wine, there are shops available near this place where they provide only this type of wine. Somehow it’s very important to the people that this place is preserved. The wines that are being sold don’t give anyone earnings as all of the proceeds of the winery goes to charity. It’s their small project and it has created buzz all over the city.

As we have already indicated, Montmartre is one place that doesn’t just go with the flow of modernization. The dawn of the 20th century until the first quarter of it have been very good to the province. People don’t want to forget about their prosperity. In this garden, you’ll see how great the town really was.
